Over use of coping method.

Hello,
On one page you say that over-using any one method for coping with stress can become harmful over time. Learn to build coping skills that stand the test of time.
I have been using deep breathing to cope with stress now for more than 20 years. Are you saying that overuse of this one technique can be harmful? Please explain.

Why does my body feel stressed out because its cold and I’m used to the cold? Now the cold irritates me and hurts me.
Answer: I’m not sure why the cold is bothering you now, but I do know that extreme cold is perceived by the body as stressful.
Sometimes cold can irritate the body by causing stiffness in joints and muscles. Exercising without warming up first can cause injury. Cold can also sometimes irritate pain that is already present, or cause aching even if pain was not there before. If there is any medical problem causing pain or sensitivity, it may be possible for extreme temperatures to worsen this.
I recommend you see your doctor or other medical professional for a check up to see if there is a reason the cold is hurting you.
Here is an exercise that may help you warm up. It is called “Warm Autogenic Relaxation.” Perhaps it will help you feel better.

So often I have stressful days, and always, without fail, worry about how to handle them!
I made a list, of all the things that comfort me, to do when these kind of stressful moments arrive.
It really helps! One is “get something healthy to eat right away”- it helps to read this in a panic attack especially!
Contacting a friend really helps, and this is a great thing to do! My friends and family understand how it is to get stressful, panicy moments like that!
Making a list of things to do in a stressful moment is a great thing to keep in a wallet.
There is a solution to everything. Keep calm and try to smile and enjoy your life!!!

Sorry. This isn’t a tip to help anyone deal with stress. I’m tired and things are worrying. I can’t find any forum on the internet where I can just post my stress, so I hope nobody will mind me putting it down here.

I’m 20 years old. Female. In my second year of uni.
I’m stressed because…
of money. I’ve been so deeply… bankrupt for so long. So poor. I have thousands of pounds of debt I am wallowing in and feel I will never be able to lift myself out of. Not only this, but out of their love my parents are helping me and they have no money. I’m draining their money.
Imagine if I won the lottery. Or even a thousand pounds. I sometimes hate this world for being the way it is. I feel like I’m trapped under a cover of darkness because I’ve dragged myself and my family into debt, and there are so many people walking the streets with a spare �1000 in their bank accounts. �1000. With that I’d be able to get through the next few months. I’d have my head at least partially above the water. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE IT. I’m suffering so much, I’m so in need, and how can there be no way in this world for me to get myself out of this situation? Will nobody help me? Is it going to be like this forever?
If my Dad doesn’t get this job he’s waiting to hear about, in a factory, this christmas, then we’re scr*wed.

And all my beautiful world will be lost. My Mum who I love so much. My brother who can’t even help HIMSELF let alone us because of severe aspergers syndrome. I hate money. I loath it and long for it and totally rely on it.
I’ve got piles of work to do for university. Work. Work. Work. Just keep working.
I’m scared my brother has no happiness waiting for him in his future.
Something has to change.

Once someone gave me the advice “when you feel anxiety, change something. change the situation. change seats. put a hand in cold water” this helps so much i still do this!

More on being mindful

I just thought I would add a couple of links to add information on mindfulness and the importance of being focused (I tend to jump around a lot). Mindfulness refers to be focused on the present moment.
Below is a helpful link on the basics of mindfulness based stress reduction.
We had a work training where they stated that multi-tasking is not effective. I have also heard that it is stressful.
Man in the Street

I get angry when anyone tells me I am the reason of any problem – maybe sometimes but not in all situations. When I walk in the street and anyone talks to me in a bad way, I say that I am the reason cuz I wear that (many times I am like any girl in the street). I think I am a hooker and come home and still cry until I want to sleep. So I go to sleep and when I wake up, I’m still angry and maybe cry again. I don’t want to go outside and didn’t want to go anywhere. When my friends call I don’t answer. I don’t think you can help but maybe you can.
