Water Meditation: Trusting the People Who Do Medical Procedures

This water meditation script is written by Diana.

This story is an imagination journey about a main character who helps you relax and overcome fear of medical procedures that was generated by a bad experience, who is there for you with a soothing voice and positive words when you are so scared that you cry, space out, and can no longer trust anyone who does a medical procedure nor think about going to have a procedure done. Specifically this story is about the fear of needles.

This story is for children and adults who fear needles and who fear being punished for their fears by the people who do medical procedures and must learn that those people are there to help them, not hurt them. The main character in this story is a helper who has a soothing voice and magical qualities to her voice as this is a dream story. The main character helps you relax by giving you hugs, talking to you in quiet words, and rubbing lotion into your arms and legs so you relax.

Main character Peace Full:

I hear you crying but when I see you then you are crying inside too.

Other character, Mrs. Words (you):

They put me in someone else’s video game where its the doctor and she pricks me with a tun of needles or even one needle has the power to push me out of my body. there is only the sound of water, no water.

Main Character Peaceful:

I put some lotion on your legs first. Feel it and know it is warm and fluffy because it is from the Wavy lake where we are going, and in that lake there is jaccuzi water where it bubbles and is warm. You are going to the real water you can touch with your hands and swim in. Now my voice will be very echoey when you are scared because I will speak to you even when I have my wings up as if I were flying, a wings voice, you will get used to. When I call you name in the echoes it will sound like my voice is overdubbed in music recordings and echoes in a big church or concert hall.

Other Character (you):

Did the needle kill me with pain though it was used to hold liquids that would keep me alive after being dehydrated? When I had asthma attacks the only thing I knew was that I could not breathe, could not call out to the one I love, just no breathing. so I was aware of just needle..hurt…just hurt me and those whom I did not love wanted me to tough it out with no pain killers, nothing, then they called me names like cry-baby.

Main Character Peace Full:

The needle did not kill you. It was so scary for you that the fear caused you to be distant and it was like you watched yourself in the movies. Do not try to tough out needles so you no longer “watching yourself in movies.” To prevent splits in awareness we will have a stronger version of this lotion that is from Wavy Lake and you will learn to know what it is, a pain-relieving lotion I shall give you at a place called Hurry Water. It’s tube is different than this one. It feels like a medicine tube, but this lotion in a soft and larger tube I put on your legs is from a lotion tube like the ones you use when you travel.

Now put this lotion on your hands, rub the bubbly lotion in your hands and you will feel it relax you. Learn how to use it when it can’t be provided everywhere except that you carry it with you because in real time there may be some places that do not have it, but make sure you tell them you need pain reliever cream so they can call it up from various supply places to bring it to you. Always ask for pain relieving creams or have the doctors write a prescription for you for these creams so you carry them with you and you do not do without the creams. if it is needed quickly you ask for spray, and a spray will feel like perfume spray.

When you practice the visualization of the water meditation practice all the way from the rubbing of the lotion in your hands and the concept of asking questions that will allow you to not have to distance yourself. When you practice and you are awake, rub lotion in your hands. When you dream, think of how I rub lotion in your hands. when you feel a medicine tube like antibiotic ointments, remember the pain reliever cream you will ask for.

1. The Main Character’s speech.

The story opens with the main character’s words. You imagine you have a peaceful person near you, who is with you on a journey through water. This is the main character who is speaking to you.

“I am the main character, and this is my story. I come to you so you can learn to believe there are doctors who are like me. I see you in this nightmare where you were in the emergency room and they did what they had to do but hurt you and did not listen to you, and that haunts you day and night whenever there is talk about doctors or going to the doctor because you can‘t yet believe someone else will act differently toward you than you experienced the first time. I am a nurse, but I work at the Thee Waters and live in the Castle Made Of Clouds whose entrance is another water, and we are going there.

I need to show you two things first. One of them is with breathing, the other is with counting. I will time your breathing rate for 1 minute. If you are breathing more than 10 breaths a minute all the time you are in the fear state that makes sounds seem louder and lights seem brighter and you feel dizzy. One whole breath is one inhale and one exhale. We will count the breaths. Do you want to count on your fingers or count with one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach to count the rise and fall of your abdomen? That is the usual way people count their breaths, but we can do another way. This is your choice.”

You do not know how to choose, and she describes what it is like to count with your fingers. “You feel your thumbs, your index fingers, your middle fingers, your ring fingers, and your little fingers. And you say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.”

You say, “Please show me counting.” she shows you with her hand how to count with fingers and touches your fingers. She times your breath for 1 minute. You end up at 14 breaths a minute because you count to 7 twice. You touch her arms and you feel she has very soft skin as if she put the finest lotion on her hands and arms. She gives you a hug, the first of many that she will give you in the journey to the castle made of clouds.

2. Mental focus with counting:

She continues her instruction, and you wonder where you have heard it before, maybe chorus practice? Could this person really sing the songs you wish to hear, Medieval chant. The peaceful person says:

My name is Peace Full, two words that sound like one. When you overcome your greatest fear your name will be Peaceful, one word. Some of our journey together will be uncomfortable, but there will be a happy ending. Focus on my voice, my name, my hugs, and how we have a happy ending together. I saw you in the place where you learned your fear of the medical procedures, where you were thirsty, where you did not have a way to relax, and where someone did not want you to hear my voice, but I am the nurse now.

My name is full of peace. I guide you with words and touches as I am made aware by a divine being, who gives me my name, that you cannot see. Therefore, your name is Mrs. Words so I may remember what you need.

The divine being is called the Ball Of Wings. He is the original peaceful one. He gave me my musical voice, and I went to school to read Greek and Latin. So you may learn the ways of relaxation we continue with the counting meditation, the first meditation having been counting our breaths.

Let’s use mental focus to help you relax. All you need to do is count up from one to five, then back down to one. I’ll count with you for a while, and then you can count on your own. Try to count in time with your breathing, counting each time you breathe out.

Keep counting on your own now. Allow your muscles to become relaxed and loose…and focus completely on the numbers…becoming more and more relaxed with each number…more and more relaxed with each number…

She says to you more about the journey: “We go into the water, and I need to help you. We are going to a place made of clouds, and the lessons in the water are for learning how to live in the place made of clouds. But I was there at the needle place watching but unable to sing to you. That is why we go far away from there so I can sing to you in the water where neither of us will be thirsty. Do you hear the water? It is coming to carry us. We are going to fall with the waterfall into a big pool where it is flat water where I will give you a breathing mask that you will need because you will be falling with me through more waterfalls into more pools. We will know the fall by hearing where the water is in relation to us, but we will not know that we are actually falling down. We are being carried by the water like a big water slide at a water park.“

3. Water dream scene, Waterfall.

(Waterfall sound)

The person who teaches you the meditation is your peaceful friendly companion who swims with you in the water. The water carries you away from the place where people called you names and into a journey of needing help and getting it, but it is a fall since you don’t have wings yet. You fall into a mote, but the water is warm and safe and you don‘t know it. This time you don’t have the ability to breathe under water. There is so much water that if you could fly or breathe under water you could cross it, but this is your ordinary self. The gift of the waterfall is trust in a person who helps you when you are scared.

You hear the voice that is very musical even when counting, and Peace Full says, “In this first water I need to give you a breathing mask so you can breathe under water when you get tired of swimming. This mask is to save your life. I need to give it to you very fast because there are very many waterfalls. I have one. Even with my breathing mask I have a musical note voice but my phrases break up because I need to breathe and that‘s what you hear.

I will continue to talk to you as I put the mask over your head and it will cover your nose and mouth. That is a scary thought, but listen to my voice and how I can still breathe and talk under water.” She puts the mask on your face, and you go into a flashback trying to get the mask off. Peace Full looks for a floating device you hold onto with your arms, and she says, “Kick the water with your feet very fast. It will help you know you are free.”

You kick at the water for a while. She finds you a little place to stand in the waterfall pool and she says, “splash in the water with your arms, and you will feel the water and know you are free.” You do not know that Peace Full found a little side pool where she could help you through the flashback and teach you how to swim, and with her whole body she shows you all the swimming like the butterfly and the breast stroke and the free style because in the flashback you forgot how.

After she shows you swimming you have no more flashback, and you swim. The water in the mote sounds like a waterfall that is so big that Peace Full has to shout at you so you can hear her over the water. She asks you what you are afraid of, and you say, “I am afraid of the roaring water.” Peace Full says, “Mrs. Words, it is quieter under the water. That is why you need the mask for this water so you can breathe under it.

We do not swim on the top of the water because it is the waterfall. This is where the falling dream took you, out of the dirty word place and into the big water.” The water is so loud so that it does not let you hear any words that are bad for your self image. Believing the bad names that someone else calls you is bad for your emotional health.” Because you hear her voice, you hold her hand and go under water with her, and this is how she shows you that with the mask you can breathe under water.

4. Water scene: River.

(River sound)

The water changes for the second scene. It sounds different and you do not hear it falling on top of itself. Peace Full tells you “Mrs. Words, This is a river. you need wings for flying. May I take the mask off so that you can breathe? You gain the ability to breathe under water because there’s something in the water that lets you breathe,so you don’t need the mask. I do not have my mask either. I can breathe under the water too. You need wings here so you do not get tired because the river is very big and the water is fast. It is still a safe water, but I don‘t want you getting too tired to walk or swim in it, and flying is what takes care of that. I must help you try on your wings. I received my pair when I was with the ball of Wings who sent me.“

As for the wings part, you do not understand about the wings and try to swim with your arms and legs, but Peaceful asks you, “Why do you not want to come to me?” You say, “I do not know.” She says, “does trying on a pair of wings make you think of something else?” You say yes but do not know what that is and you struggle treading water. Peaceful swims the side stroke and carries you and talks to you about two pairs of wings: “I saw in the scary scene how they held your arms and legs down.

I know that reaching your arms out frightens you now. Trying on the first set of wings is like when little kids try on floaties. You reach out and the other person puts the floaty, or this first part of the wings on. You will also have wings that are on your back. You need the flexibility of 4 wings so if any waves come you can fly upside down. When you have the first pair of wings, you will reach your arms out to the sides like you are trying on a dress shirt with sleeves and buttons down the front.” Then because of her words, you are able to let her help you get four wings.

6. At Hurry Water:

In a little room where you dry off after being in the water, The peaceful person says to you, “I am a nurse. I have protective words that will get rid of nightmares about what happened to you in the big, big needle place and what happened when reading about the time when there were castles. I know you don’t like to hear the word needles. I have the words, but the words are in this needle attached to a tube. They protect you from stories from long ago and stories that you remember. The water is magic water and is made magic because there are words in it.

The water is called hurry water. It is concentrated magic water, and if you drink too much the water would be too strong for you because it is made to be given in a hurry when you are really thirsty, too thirsty to drink regular water. The hurry water is given through a needle. This time there’s a cream and I will use it on your arm so you do not feel the needle.

Peace Full says, “In Hurry Water, here is a fountain. We sit by it, and we put our feet in it while we talk. It is too shallow to swim in. Keep your feet in the water while I tell you more about how the hurrying liquid works. The reason it’s too strong if you drink it from a cup is it would be like trying to drink a gallon of regular water all at once. This water is special because it fills up your whole body and when you feel it, it feels warm. It is relaxing water, but it fills up your cells, and it gets there the fastest when it goes into your veins. Scary thing, oh I said a scary word. I am sorry because a scary story makes you not want the magic water.“

You say to Peace Full, “I heard somewhere that there are needles without cream. What happens then.” she says, “You will ask if there is anyone there who knows how to help you relax and if they could hold your hand. Do not be afraid and think about that day. For now I give you cream and the protective words that take away your worries. The strange thing is they are hidden in an object that you worry about. I don’t know why the words have to be like this, but after the ccream we will go to the castle in the clouds to sleep, and there you will drink water.”

You become very scared and you can’t say any words but can only cry. Peace Full says, “We will go to the bed now, and I will show you how to get over this fear. I want the hurry water needle to be over for you soon. I’ll call it a water pencil. It doesn’t work like regular water because that would be like trying to pour water through a straw. Because you are small I will give it to you three times, this hurry water. I don’t want to give you three needles, but I will give you the water pencil tube. It will stay in your arm so I can give you the three tubes of hurry water one every 5 minutes, and in 15 minutes it will be done.

Three times I squeeze your hand to let you know I’m giving you the hurry water. We touch the fountain each time. When you feel the pencil tube that lies flat against your wrist I will help you think of other things other than bad things that happened when Chaucer was alive. I will sing the old chant songs to you.”

With great difficulty you say yes and then you cry. Peace Full says, “We have a relaxing time. You just listen while I talk, and I help you through the scary times. Remember, the cream does not let you feel any needle. If there is a time when there is a needle and no cream, as there may be in the real world, know that I will talk longer and my meditation will be double because then I will talk you through pain relief images. This story is about getting a pain relief cream because I saw a written note about the cream called Emla. I want you to know the first part of the double meditation. You do not need the second one now. You need only the meditation about my name.”

7. Meditation on the main character’s name:

Take a deep breath in…and out…

In…and out…

In…out…

Continue to breathe slowly and rhythmically as you now meditate to calm your mind.

You can choose any phrase you want to focus upon for the meditation portion of this pain management relaxation. This will be your focus word. I’ll use the word “peaceful” here. Focus your attention on this word with each breath. Every time your thoughts drift, focus in again on this word. Don’t worry about making anything happen, or doing this meditation a certain way. Whatever happens is right for you at this moment.

Keep an attitude of passive acceptance. Just accept the state you are in, and continue to focus your mind on the word you will be repeating.

Continue to repeat this word in your mind, focusing your attention on this word whenever your thoughts wander.

Take note of how your body feels, now. See how relaxed your muscles are. Notice how calm your mind is. Enjoy this feeling of relaxation for a few moments more.

8. The Wavy Lake and the castle made of clouds:

(lake sound)

Then Peace Full squeezes your hand to let you know there’s no more water pencil with the needle. She says, “Listen, Ball of Wings has opened a door for us. We cross some more water. What do you say?” You are very happy and say, “Oh goody.”

Peace Full says, “The lake is created for those who cannot see so they can hear the water and know the entrance to the castle made of clouds. You can breathe, swim, walk, and fly in here. The waves are here to comfort you and you feel them like you felt the bubbles of the stream the last time we were in the water. If you can see you go up floating on clouds, but you can’t hear clouds so this entrance is created for you.”

Having been given the protective magic water you and Peace Full jump into the lake. On the way to the castle in the clouds as you and Peace Full fly threw the water, you ask “Why are the water places are so big?” For you to get to know the peaceful person and to know that the water is safe and that the water is far away from the place where you heard the words that took away your self esteem. You are tired from the water journey and the giving of the magic water and you want to sleep so you sleep in a castle.

Peace Full knows a lot of old chant songs. She sings one to you while in the water which leads into the castle of clouds. Then she leads you to a comfortable room made out of clouds, and she gives you a tall glass of water. This room is the music room, and here she shows you with a keyboard and the music notes from middle c to G that the counting from the beginning of the story is the scale c to g and then back to c.

Since she does a lot of lessons because she helps people get to the castle made of clouds, Peace Full says the counting instructions for sleep to you as you lie in the cloud bed that she knows is provided for you here in the cozy castle. You say, “who is the Ball of Wings? She says, “We can’t see him or hear him, but he is with us. Touch the koosh ball now. That is our symbol for him. I have a koosh ball, and I give you this koosh ball, the one that I want you to touch.”

You wonder all night about who the ball of Wings is and how he got his name. She says, “He is there with you all the time. Believe in him the way you have learned to believe in me. He sent me. Rest now. Because of your time of fears that causes you to need help with relaxing, I, Peace Full rub warm lotion into your arms and legs. Here is the lotion. Feel how good it is. It has some of the pure water from the lake in it.

I watch over you when you sleep, and if you are thirsty or have a nightmare call my name. When you wake up, I am with you. I put a water bottle by your bed, but if you forget in the night to reach out for it, call my name. Here is a koosh ball by your bed so you can remember who sent me.

Take a deep breath in…and breathe out…

In…and out…

Continue to breathe deeply, slowly, and comfortably.

I’ll count down now, from ten…to one. As I say each number, you can become more relaxed.
